The house was built between 1722 and 1729 for William Connolly. The tour covers all aspects of the history of Castletown House, from 1722, when it was built, right up to the present day. We continue our chauffeur tour of Kildare with a visit to St. Brigids Cathedral. The cathedral was built in 1223. The grounds of the cathedral contain a number of fascinating links to the early history of the site including a Round Tower, Celtic Cross and St. Brigids Firehouse. The original round tower dates back to the 6th century. The tower is 108 feet high and the second highest in Ireland but the highest one that can be climbed giving magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.

The Stud itself has a guided tour which details it work as an integral part of breeding thoroughbred horses in Ireland. The Horse Museum tells the story of man and horse uniting for sporting competition.
